Is your pillow clean?
Not all practices have a pillow for the comfort and stabilisation of patients who need it most. Practices that do, often have a traditional style fabric pillow which gets stored in a cupboard and let’s face it, the cleanliness of this may be questionable.
According to the BBC (2025), household pillows contain billions of fungi particles, bacteria, mites and viruses, with sweat, dead skin cells and saliva to feast on – delicious, right? Of course, this research is based on household pillows, used by the same person for a period of time, but the premise is the same, if not worse in practice.
