Reskill and Restore: Top tips for embracing full scope working as a dental therapist
For many years, graduating with a qualification in dental therapy, which also encompasses the full dental hygienist scope, has been commonplace in the UK. However, many dental therapists have found themselves in a position where they are working to a limited scope of practice, whether through circumstance or choice. So, what are the steps we can take as dental therapists to embrace our skills and return to offering treatment under our full scope of practice?
Aim: This session will outline how to take steps towards reskilling as a dental therapist in order to utilise the entire scope of practice to the benefit of patients, the practice and the entire dental team.
Objectives:
- Recognise the value of a support system within the profession to support the reskill journey
- Describe how to introduce the dental therapist role to the practice team effectively
- Discuss practice protocols for efficient whole-team working and enhanced patient care
- Outline equipment and techniques which can simplify restorative protocols and enhance restorative results
